Avoid remote-job scams

Stop if you see any of these

  • They ask you to pay for training, a starter kit, equipment or a 'registration fee' before you start.
  • They send you a cheque or money and ask you to send part of it back or buy something.
  • They want payment, or to pay you, in cryptocurrency or gift cards.
  • The interview happens only by chat (e.g. Telegram or WhatsApp), with no video call and no real person.
  • The pay is very high for easy work, like 'earn €300 a day liking videos' or 'no experience, big money'.
  • They ask for your ID, bank details or tax number before you have a written job offer.
  • The email comes from a free address (e.g. @gmail.com), not from the company's own website domain.
  • You cannot find the company online, or its website is new, empty or full of errors.
  • They rush you: 'Reply in 1 hour or lose the job', or they offer the job without any interview.
  • They ask you to receive parcels or money at your home and send them on. This can be crime.

Your next steps

Step 1

Make your Europass CV

Build a clear CV on Europass, then use the ATS tips from M3 so software and people can read it easily.

Step 2

Create a EURES profile

Register free on EURES and upload your CV. Choose 'remote' or 'hybrid' and the countries you can work for.

Build a small portfolio

Choose 3–5 of your best Re-AI exercises (e.g. emails, chatbot, data report) and show them in one simple online page.

Step 5

Apply every week and track it

Set a small goal, like 3 good applications a week. Track each one in a spreadsheet and follow up after a week.

Step 6

Talk to your employment service

Ask your local employment service (in Portugal, the IEFP) about free courses, job support and remote-work offers.
